Weather for the mariner.
I have used pocketgrib now for two years. I still copy gribs when deep sea via the HAM network and fax charts from Norfolk Virginia. However when coastal and can get 3G or internet, pocketgrib is great. Also last year was able to copy gribs on a daily basis and guide a solo transatlantic sailor around the worst of the weather by e-mailing the reports to him by HAM radio. The last part of his trip was threatened by Hurricane Albert and entering the Gulf Stream was a nightmare for him. However with pocketgrib files I was able to give him considerably more info than he could get himself on board his yacht.
As a pilot I also use pocketgrib to supplement weather information from environment Canada and other sources when planning flights. The ability to pick any area of the world and get forecasts is fantastic.
I sailed around the word in 1974-1979 using but a sextant and timepiece. My how the world has changed for the mariner and aviator. GPS and pocketgrib have made both pursuits safer and easier.
Thank you Pocketgrib!
